Becca Hodgkinson

About Me

I graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in English in 2002, a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2005, and a M. Ed. in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on reading and language instruction in 2009. I completed an English as a Second Language endorsement through Southern Utah University in 2006. I started as a student teacher and substitute at Escalante in 2004, and then joined the faculty in 2005 as a third grade teacher. I have taught in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades as a regular classroom teacher, and as an ESL/Newcomers teacher and reading specialist.

My favorite subjects right now are reading, writing and English language acquisition, but I also love teaching and learning about math, science and social studies. It is hard to pick just one favorite. My favorite thing about teaching is that every day is new and different. I have met so many amazing students and families from all over the world, and I have learned so much from them and with them. My job is never boring.

I love reading, gardening, attending RSL games, hiking with my kids and our dog, and camping with our friends. I enjoy listening to live music and playing the piano late at night when everyone else is asleep.  I love traveling, and would like to do more of it. There are so many people to meet and amazing things to see and learn about out in our big world.
