Celebrations

Our Escalante Explorers are demonstrating positive behaviors in the cafeteria! Classes are able to earn badges for making great choices like cleaning up and being safe. 

Ms. Saeteurn's class won the Friday Spirit Count this week! All students came to school either dressed in school colors or in pjs for the pajama day their class had earned. Way to go!

Communication with the Office

We want to talk with you! Did you know that we have phone translation available to help families who speak languages other than English? You can call anytime and we can connect to an interpreter over the phone. 

If you're wanting to talk with us about your student's attendance, we have options! You can send us a text using the Edia App or send a direct message to Katya Garcia Nunez or Alesha Hufstetler on ParentSquare.

Clothing Donations

Did you know that our Food Pantry also has clothing available? If you have gently used children's clothing that is clean and no longer fits your own kids, consider clearing out some storage space and donating them to our school  collection. Donations can be brought to the front office. Your community support makes a difference at Escalante!

Attendance: GOAT Trophies

Every week the classes with the most improved attendance are recognized with a GOAT trophy that stays in their classroom throughout the week. This week, 6th grade hosted the trophies. 
Our first grade classes made huge gains and increased attendance by 9% this week! They will receive the GOAT trophies next week.

Literacy Corner: Building Early Literacy at Home

Sentence Segmentation Activities
Sentence Segmentation Builds Word Awareness: Children often hear speech as one continuous stream of sound. These activities help them realize that sentences are built from distinct, individual words.


Games to play at home:
  • Use any board game and pieces you have available at home (Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Life, Monopoly, etc.). Tell your child you will take turns saying a sentence. For every word in the sentence, the other player will move one space. Take turns giving the sentences and moving pieces. The first player to the end wins.
  • Recite a nursery rhyme line by line to your child. After each line, ask your child how many words were heard in that line. Example: “Do you know the Muffin Man,” “6 words!” “Who lives on Drury Lane?” “5 words!”
  • Alternate version: Recite a favorite poem verse or song lyric to your child. Have your child clap for each word heard in each line.

Collaboration: What Works for You?

Our School Community Council and PTA want to schedule meetings at a time that works best for our community to increase access and participation. Next week we will be sending home a flyer with your student asking which days of the week and what times you might be able to meet. Please fill out the form and send it back with your student. We will use this information to update our next SCC and PTA meeting times.
