We are pleased to welcome Vanessa Lagunas-Arevalo as the new school social worker at Escalante Elementary. This is her first year working for Salt Lake School District; but her school education was through the Salt Lake District. She went to Whittier Elementary, Hillside Middle School and graduated from Highland High School. She graduated with her masters from the University of Utah in Social Work with her focus being Education and Schools. She has always loved working with children and mental health. She says, "This job is a true gem in my life."

Her family originates from Michoacan, Mexico and she is a first-generation Chicana. Spending time with family is her favorite thing, (Along with Carne Asada). She has two dogs, Ollie and Domino who hike with her around the Utah lakes and mountains. She loves summer when it does not go past 80 degrees. She loves a cup of coffee on the daily- only iced even when it's freezing outside along with avocado toast!

We are excited to have her join our school community!
